BRIEF HISTORY OF POTSIN T. I. AHMADIYYA
SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL, GOMOA POTSIN

The school was established in 1972 by the Ahmadiyya Muslim Mission, Ghana. The Mission believes in discipline, high moral and good character training. It also believes in formal education as an essential tool for total development of humanity. Hence, the establishment of the school under a scheme called NUSRAT-JAHAN SCHEME (SERVICE TO HUMANITY).

The full name of the school is Potsin T. I. Ahmadiyya Senior High School, and popularly called P-AMASS or Precious AMASS.

The school’s motto is ‘Nyamesuro na Nyimdzee ma kanko’ which means “the fear of God and Knowledge bring success”. The common greeting in the school is As-salaamu Alaikum

The school started as a humble institution, beginning its life at the present site with a student population of thirteen (13) boys and a girl, with only four teachers, including the headmaster.

Initially, the school started as a day school until 1974 when its catchments area transcended beyond the surrounding towns and villages.

The school admitted students from the urban areas to start its boarding system with ninety four (94) girls and sixteen (16) boys and a cook. There was no pipe-borne water and most of the people in the community relied on reservoirs built in their homes. The rest also had to walk a distance of five (5) kilometers to river Ayensu for water. This was a daily routine for the students and hampered the academic performance of students because they had no alternative than to fetch water from the river side before reporting for classes.

There was no lighting system and students had to walk through the dark for preps and the risk was obvious. Currently, the school has a regular supply of electricity from the National grid. There is a generator which supplies the electricity when the national grid goes off. It also has regular source of pipe borne water. The school was absorbed into the public system of education by the Ghana Education Service in September, 1984.

The list of Headmasters that have been in the school since 1972 are as follows;
1.     Mr. Sharif Ahmad                                       - 1972 – 1979
2.     Mr. Abdur Rafique Jadran                          - 1979 – 1986
3.     Mr. Yusif Kobina Agyare                           - 1986 – 1998
4.     Mr. Mohammed Kwesi Akonu                   - 1999 – 2010
5.     Mr Nazir Ahmad Keelson                           - January, 2010- date

In Sports, the school has carved an enviable image for itself by emerging the 2006 National Milo Soccer Champion and the 2008 National Milo Soccer Ruuners-up.

Students are assured that T. I. Ahmadiyya Senior High School; Gomoa Potsin is very conducive for learning. We have a team of highly qualified and competent teachers who are devoted to duty. Many of our students qualify for the universities and other tertiary institutions year after year.

The Holy Prophet Muhammed, peace and blessings of Allah be on him, said”seek knowledge from the cradle to the grave” It is our vision to nurture our students to become not only torchbearers but also people who are morally upright.

 The Ahmadiyya Muslim Mission established this institution to achieve its philosophy of giving quality education and good moral training to students.
